
The Gilbert Police Department will use grant funds from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety to improve traffic enforcement and training. The funding for the 2025 Federal Fiscal Year will support efforts in DUI enforcement, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and accident investigation training, according to the Gilbert Town Hall.
The Gilbert Police Department has been awarded $218,694 in grants. Of this, $110,000 will be used for personnel overtime to address impaired driving. An additional $80,000 will support the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, focusing on speeding and aggressive driving. The funds will also allow officers more time to enforce laws protecting vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, as reported by the Gilbert Town Hall.
The Gilbert Police Department has received several grants from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety to enhance traffic enforcement and officer training. The department was awarded $22,018 for training on investigating serious and fatal collisions, $6,676 to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety through enforcement and public awareness, and $30,000 for DUI enforcement and overtime costs. This funding will also support specialized DUI training courses, including Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and Drug Recognition Expert. The department will report its use of these funds to Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety on a quarterly basis, as mentioned by the Gilbert Town Hall.
