In a nod to the city's behind-the-scenes heroes, Goodyear's Public Works Department has snagged a national safety accolade. Recognized for their exceptional safety training program, the team took home the Best Safety Training Program award at the Solid Waste Association of North America's WasteCon 2024 event, as per Goodyear's official announcement.
The award pays tribute to Goodyear Public Works' commitment to keeping its staffers safe, a priority that's deeply ingrained in its culture. In a move to truly empower every individual on the team, each member is trained to swiftly act to halt operations should they spot unsafe conditions. Sumeet Mohan, the Public Works Director, praised the initiative, stating, "By effectively implementing our comprehensive safety, health and wellness programs, we have reduced health risks and enhanced the overall quality of life for our workforce," as reported by the city's news release.
SWANA's annual gathering spotlights professionals who push for excellence in the solid waste sector. The safety training program at Goodyear Public Works has managed to stand out in a field where the bar is set high. It's a commitment that has earlier earned the department the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Site status back in 2022, a mark of superior safety practices.
Safety is more than just a buzzword for Goodyear Public Works—it's a core value every worker follows. It's a standard that’s not only set but consistently met and exceeded, reflecting the department’s commitment to safety. This focus on safety has been key to their success, earning them a recent award from SWANA. The award highlights Goodyear Public Works as a leader in workplace safety and an example for public service departments across the country.
