Early this morning, tragedy struck in Whitehaven, where a series of events beginning with gunfire resulted in a crash, leaving two adults and a young child injured, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD). The incident, which unfolded shortly before 3 a.m. at the intersection of Winchester Road and Winbrook Drive, involved a 23-year-old woman who was critically injured, a 27-year-old man with non-critical injuries, and a one-year-old baby also in non-critical condition, as reported by WREG.
Upon arrival at the scene, MPD discovered an overturned vehicle in a grassy area adjacent to the road, with officers subsequently rerouting traffic for the duration of the investigation, which led to approximately a five-hour closure of Winchester Road, also confirmed by FOX13. Preliminary findings suggest a connection between the woman's involvement in a verbal altercation at a separate location and the subsequent violence that transpired, as each event wove tightly into the other, resulting in the distressing scene uncovered by law enforcement.
While the severity of the adult female's condition was acknowledged, it was noted that the baby, taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, did not suffer from serious injuries, an update that Local Memphis also shared. Quinton Austin, a resident familiar with the woman's family, expressed his dismay and concern during an interview with FOX13, urging the community to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence, saying, "It's no use to take it there like, just to be honest. So I feel anybody if it's a disagreement where there's a, you know, guy and a female or you know, two females or two guys just walk away because the end of the day it's not worth it. These days, you know, you have people just shoot random, you know, anywhere, so it's really unfortunate."
