A routine traffic stop in Hayward escalated into a high-speed chase, ending with an alarming discovery. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hayward, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle clocked at speeds of 90mph, only for the driver to abruptly attempt to avoid apprehension fully.
The CHP reported that after the driver exited the freeway and abandoned the vehicle, she tried to flee on foot, taking a startling risk by bringing her 4-year-old child along. Officers, who were dismayed to learn a child was involved, soon safely apprehended the suspect. Further investigation revealed the driver was nearly twice over the legal limit for alcohol, compounding the recklessness of her actions.
The CHP's findings also included an illegally possessed loaded firearm in the vehicle with the driver and another male adult. Officers took swift action to ensure no harm came to the child and apprehended the armed individual without further incident.
