An investigation is underway after a fatal shooting at a DeKalb County parking lot on Flat Shoals Road left one man, an innocent bystander, dead. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred shortly before 2:20 p.m., during an argument between two individuals over an undisclosed sum of money; when one person opened fire aiming at the other, a man not involved in the dispute was struck and killed.
In a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, a resident named Brian said, "A good friend of mine just lost his life." He shared that both he and the victim regularly attended addiction recovery meetings at the location of the tragedy, adding, "he was an innocent bystander, didn’t have anything to do with what was going on." Another DeKalb resident, C., said that the sound of gunfire is common in the area. He shared his own experience with gun violence in the area when a family member, simply stepping outside for a cigarette, was caught in the crossfire of an unrelated shooting in the same parking lot.
DeKalb County police arrived at the scene around 2:30 p.m. to find the man fatally wounded, as reported by WSB-TV. The authorities have not yet released the identities of either the victim or those involved in the argument that culminated in gunfire, nor have they disclosed if any suspects have been apprehended following the incident.
