Jacksonville will honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy with the 38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on January 17, presented by Florida Blue. The event, held at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center, brings the community together to reflect on King's principles of equality and progress. Mayor Donna Deegan emphasized, "The Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast is an opportunity to honor his legacy and embrace a shared vision of unity, equality, and progress. We’re honored to have bestselling author Jonathan Eig bring past and present together as the keynote speaker. All citizens are invited to participate in this storied tradition and be part of our ongoing work to build a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive," in a statement obtained by the City of Jacksonville's news release.

Gates open at 7 a.m., with the program starting at 8 a.m., featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jonathan Eig as the keynote speaker. Eig, author of King: A Life, will connect historical insights with current issues in a meaningful address. Hosted by Dawn Lopez of Action News Jax and Anthony Austin of First Coast News, the event includes breakfast and discussions aimed at honoring Dr. King's legacy and inspiring progress in the community.

Award-winning author and historian Jonathan Eig, known for his literary accolades, including the Barbara and David Zalaznick Book Prize and a PEN America Literary Award, brings a distinguished voice to the event. With six books, including four New York Times bestsellers, and contributions to the PBS documentary Muhammad Ali by Ken Burns, Eig’s keynote promises to inspire and challenge attendees while deepening their connection to Dr. King's legacy.

Tickets for the tribute to Dr. King are available for $70 per individual and $700 for corporate tables through the event's website. Admission includes breakfast and free parking.
