A man from Jenkinsburg, Georgia is now facing charges for aggravated assault against law enforcement after an incident during an eviction process. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) reported that Courtney Deonta Reeves, 30, was arrested after deputies from Butts County Sheriff’s Office were attacked while attempting to serve him an eviction notice.
The confrontation occurred on Monday, when deputies approached Reeves' residence on County Line Road around 9:20 a.m. The situation rapidly escalated after Reeves allegedly grabbed a machete and began to quickly attack the officers present. As a result, two deputies sustained injuries and subsequently were transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, they are reported to be in stable condition and forecasted to make a full recovery.
Following the altercation, Reeves was taken into custody and booked into Butts County Jail. With the investigation underway, the GBI is committed to conducting a thorough and independent inquiry into the circumstances that led to the incident. This is standard procedure in cases of use of force and assault on law enforcement officers. The goal is to ensure that all facts are gathered before any legal proceedings commence.
Upon completion of the investigation, the GBI will present their findings to the Towaliga Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. This office will then proceed to critically review the case to determine the appropriate next steps and possible charges. Court dates and further legal action will be announced in due time once the review is completed, and authorities are to fully have disclosed all pertinent details surrounding the case.
