Kingsport residents, the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday will alter more than just your dinner plans. City offices will be shutting their doors on November 28 and 29, and garbage collection services will be temporarily suspended. According to an announcement from the City of Kingsport, there will be no garbage or trash pickup on Thanksgiving Day, November 28.
The city has a plan for post-Thanksgiving garbage collection: Thursday's pickups will happen on Friday, and Friday's will be moved to Saturday. This schedule should give you extra time, even if you forget to sort your leftovers.
The city's landfill will be closed on November 28 and 29 for the holiday but will reopen on Saturday, November 30, from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. It will resume normal hours on December 2.
Remember, these adjustments are made to ensure city workers can spend the holiday with their families, too. The schedule is tight, designed to allow to slow transition back into regular operations without causing too much of a disruption in services. You can always revisit the city's website for a detailed breakdown of the alterations to your waste collection schedule during this festive period.
