Kingsport Parks and Recreation is hosting a Turkey Bowl flag football event on November 23 at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. The event invites participants to join in a fun gridiron showdown as part of the Thanksgiving celebrations, according to the City of Kingsport.
The one-day football tournament, a throwback to past events, will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It has a $150 registration fee per team, with a player limit of 18, and participants must be at least 16 years old. Players under 18 need parental consent. The event is organized by Kingsport Parks and Recreation, as reported by the City of Kingsport.
The competition will follow a double-elimination format with eight teams, each playing two 20-minute halves. The winning team will receive a store-bought turkey and commemorative T-shirts. A blind draw will determine the matchups, which will be streamed on Facebook Live at noon on November 20. Program Leader Garrett Sherer spoke excitedly about the event, saying, "Since we’re in the middle of football season and we’ve not held this type of event in more than a decade, we thought now is the perfect time to bring back flag football," as stated by the City of Kingsport.
