Las Cruces seniors will need to adjust their lunch plans in December, according to an announcement from the city of Las Cruces. The Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center's dining room will be temporarily closing its doors for some much-needed renovation work. Specifically, from December 2 through December 17, the dining area will be off-limits as workers set to replace the aging floor. Thankfully, the interruption in service won’t last too long, as the center is slated to re-open on December 18, just in time to resume providing meal services. The full statement provided by the city detailed that no services for seniors will be available at the center during the construction period.

However, the city is not leaving its senior residents high and dry. Alternative dining options will be available for those affected by the closure. Seniors can continue to join for lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at several nearby locations throughout the city, including Sage Café, Henry Benavidez Center, Eastside Center, and Munson Senior Center. According to the City of Las Cruces, the full list of alternate dining sites was shared in the city's announcement.

There is also support for those who rely on Las Cruces Dial-A-Ride transportation services. The city encourages anyone needing assistance in scheduling rides to alternative dining locations during the dining room closure to call 575-528-3000 and ask to speak with a case manager. Dial-A-Ride is a service designed to help those with mobility issues, including many of the community's seniors, ensuring they still have access to essential services.
