Las Cruces locals can kick off their holiday festivities with the city's annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony happening from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, December 7th. This year, the ceremony is hosted at Plaza de Las Cruces, centrally located at 100 N. Main St, promising an evening charged with holiday spirit and community cheer, according to the City of Las Cruces.
Set as a complimentary event, the occasion beckons families with various attractions including live music, giveaways, refreshments, and a spread of food trucks offering up the heart-warming aromas of the season. While the children engage in the fun activities planned, those in attendance will witness Mayor Eric Enriquez sharing the year's highlights and fondly reflecting on the moments that shaped 2024, the ceremony culminates with the lighting of the Christmas tree promptly at 7 p.m. as the mayor illuminates not just the conifer but also the collective hope of the community.
The merriment does not cease with the tree's brilliant glow, as the event paves the way for a classic holiday film screening. "The Muppet Christmas Carol" is slated to play at the Rio Grande Theatre, an establishment steeped in culture and history at 211 N. Main St, just a short walk away from the plaza, with the doors opening post-ceremony. Interested viewers can take part in this nostalgic journey for a modest fee of $5 per person.
