Last week's tragic multi-vehicle collision, which resulted in the deaths of two juveniles and left several injured, has seen progress in the case as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) identified and apprehended the driver responsible for the accident. According to an update by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 32-year-old Nikki Serrat, the Lexus driver at fault, has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm as well as additional hit-and-run charges.
On the evening of Friday last week, surveillance video and reports show that a Lexus was speeding when it crashed into a Mitsubishi Outlander at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South Pecos-McLeod Interconnect. The driver, Serrat, was in a right-turn-only lane and ran a red light, hitting the Mitsubishi. The crash seriously injured the passengers and caused a chain reaction, involving a Honda Civic and a Cadillac SRX that were stopped at the traffic signal.
The crash resulted in the deaths of two juvenile passengers in the Mitsubishi, who were taken to Sunrise Hospital and later pronounced dead. These deaths marked the 136th and 137th traffic fatalities in LVMPD's jurisdiction this year. The names of the victims have been withheld due to their age. Other passengers in the vehicles involved had injuries ranging from minor to critical, with two other juvenile passengers in the Mitsubishi treated for minor injuries and released.
After the crash, Serrat fled, leaving two critically injured passengers in the Lexus. Police identified the passengers as Christine Torres, 46, who sustained critical injuries, and Summer Wickard, 31, who suffered moderate injuries. The driver of the Mitsubishi and other affected drivers had minor injuries. Cynthia Alvarado, 30, was treated at UMC Hospital, while Christopher Baugh, 41, declined medical attention at the scene.
The LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section is still investigating the incident. They urge anyone with information to come forward and provide contact details, with options to remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers. Tips leading to a felony arrest or indictment may result in a cash reward.
