A mailman has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a lawncare worker in Lithia, Florida, following a dispute that escalated to violence. The incident occurred on Oct. 22, with deputies responding to a call just after 1 p.m. on Tanagerlake Road, as reported by WTSP.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, 60-year-old Mark Calloway, identified as the postal worker, argued with Jacob Whitaker, 29, before the altercation turned physical, resulting in Whitaker sustaining several fatal stab wounds to his upper torso. Found dead in the road was Whitaker by deputies, signaling a violent end to what started as a verbal disagreement, as detailed in a statement obtained by FOX 13 News.
The Sheriff's Office has since charged Calloway with second-degree murder with a weapon. "I can't imagine the pain this senseless loss has brought to the victim's family and loved ones. I sincerely hope this arrest provides them peace of mind and closure as they continue to grieve," Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed, echoing the sentiments of a community shaken by such an unexpected act of violence. His comments were further echoed by the narrative of the senseless violence not being tolerated in an official statement reported by WFLA.
Charged with the death of Whitaker, it is Calloway who faces the consequence of that moment now embroiled in the justice system, according to information provided by the Sheriff's Office.
