A fatal incident occurred Tuesday morning in Cobb County, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Comfort Nkenganyi of Lithia Springs. The tragedy took place near the intersection of Austell Road and Orange Hill Drive, where Nkenganyi was crossing Austell Road in the crosswalk but against the "Do Not Walk" signal, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The Cobb County Police Department (CCPD), who is to carefully continue the investigation, shared that a white 2021 Toyota Highlander struck Nkenganyi despite the driver's efforts to swerve and avoid the collision. At least two additional vehicles subsequently hit Nkenganyi and failed to stop. The driver of the Toyota Highlander remained at the scene as the situation unfolded. In contrast, the drivers of the other vehicles involved have yet to be identified.
Nkenganyi was declared dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner, as reported by Atlanta News First.
Authorities have not yet decided if charges will be filed in connection with the collision. The CCPD is asking anyone with information to contact them at 770-499-3987.
