A hiker who lost their way on the Konahuanui Trail above the Nuuanu Reservoir has been rescued, according to the Honolulu Fire Department. In a recent release on their official website, the HFD detailed the response that took place after receiving a distress call on Tuesday. The call came in at 4:09 p.m., and HFD was quick to dispatch 5 units, manned by 13 personnel, to the scene.
The first responders arrived at the location by 4:16 p.m., setting up a landing zone for air support. The operation involved Air 1, which was crucial in reaching the stranded hiker. Despite the challenges that come with navigating the treacherous terrains of Oahu's mountain trails, the hiker was located safely at 5:10 p.m., where a medical assessment was promptly conducted. It was found that the individual did not sustain any injuries during the ordeal.
As per the HFD's statement, the hiker was attempting to descend the trail before becoming disoriented and unable to continue on their own. The rescue effort concluded with the hiker's safe transport via Air 1 back to the landing zone by 5:14 p.m. All HFD personnel who participated were accounted for, and no injuries were reported during the mission.
