Violence erupted outside a Soulard neighborhood bar last night leaving one man in critical condition, as reported by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD). The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. in the 1000 block of Sidney, where District 3 officers found a 50-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
According to the police, the victim was quickly attended to by the officers who applied a tourniquet before EMS arrived on the scene. Following the initial emergency care provided by the officers, the injured man was transported to a local hospital. Listed in critical condition, the victim's identity has yet to be released pending notification of family members.
The SLMPD's preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting stemmed from an altercation that started inside the bar. It is reported that the conflict escalated as both men exited the bar, turning physical. It was at this point, the other man, whose identity remains undisclosed, pulled out a firearm and shot the 50-year-old man in the leg.
As of now, the circumstances surrounding the altercation and subsequent shooting are being further investigated by District 3 detectives.
