The event, which took place at 9:00 AM, was an opportunity for friends, family, and co-workers to witness the honoring of the newly promoted Sergeant Henderson, Lieutenant Slatton, and Major Collins. According to a report by the City of Marietta, Chief Beam expressed his gratitude not only to the promotees for their commitment to the community but also to their family members for the support provided.
Described by the ceremony's hosts, Sergeant Henderson's career in law enforcement follows a notable stint in the military with the 3/325th Airborne Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg. Transitioning from the Army, he held positions at BellSouth Telecommunications and The Home Depot before joining the Marietta Police Department on September 7, 2004. His new badge, as part of the ceremony, was pinned by a loved one and symbolizes his varied service across the Uniform Patrol, SWAT, and the Detectives/Crime Scene Unit, among others.
Lieutenant Slatton brings over two decades of experience to his new role. After joining the Marietta Police Department on July 1, 2002, Slatton built a reputation that spans across Uniform Patrol to the Crime Interdiction Unit and the S.T.E.P. His educational background includes a master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University and co-founding R.A.D. women’s self-defense classes, which earned the department an accolade from the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.
The department's top rank at the ceremony was assumed by Major Collins, who entered the Marietta Police Department's ranks on April 19, 2002. With an extensive career that boasts 34 years in public safety, his credentials include a master's degree and board certification as a tactical paramedic. His commitment to the force is matched by his commitment to his family, married for 34 years, Major Collins celebrated his promotion alongside his wife Shannon and their children.
