The craft beer community is saying goodbye to a local treasure as 16 Lots Brewing Company has announced the closure of its Mason and Newport locations. In a sad revelation on social media, the company stated via WCPO, "Well, friends, the sun has set at 16 Lots Brewing Company and 16 Lots Southern Outpost. As of today, we are permanently closed." The brewery has been struggling since earlier this year when it was forced to shut down its kitchen and reduce staff at the Newport site following a fight to keep the business running.

Despite opening its Newport on the Levee location just this year, 16 Lots felt compelled to decide to cease operations. The company acknowledged the support it received in a Facebook post, saying via FOX19, "Shout out to our landlords and Eclipse Bank for doing everything in their power to support us and give us the opportunity to make this work." However, they admitted, "We gave it our best shot, but unfortunately, the biz just wasn't sustainable," as reported by The Cincinnati Enquirer.

The company, which had made a name for itself at its Mason location since 2017, expressed gratitude to its staff for their dedication throughout its operations. "Major kudos to our amazing staff – you have been the heart and soul of both brewpubs all along ... thanks for all you’ve done," the company conveyed in a statement echoed by local outlet FOX19. This closure follows the brewery's commendable achievement of securing two bronze medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championship in July.

Following 16 Lots' shutdown, there is still a flicker of hope for the flagship site as Mad Monks Pizza, which shared the space, is exploring options to continue operations independently. They plan to rebrand the location as Mad Monks Pizza and Taproom, featuring their pizza menu, a full bar, and 15 draft beers. The pizza company stated on social media, "We want to thank everyone for the last seven years and will keep you posted on all updates," as detailed by WCPO. While the future for this potential pivot remains uncertain, patrons and the craft beer community are eagerly awaiting further announcements.
