Maui's community will need to shuffle around their swim and recreation plans as the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation has declared a brief hiatus for numerous facilities in early December. Offices and pools operated by the department will close on Friday, for staff training while the Upcountry Aquatic Center will undergo repairs on Wednesday and Thursday.
The closure, touching all district offices including those in Central Maui, East Maui, Kīhei, Lahaina, and Wailuku, will also affect permit offices, and it doesn't stop there as the Maui pools will be closed too, in a move that seems to have blocked off most recreational aquatic activities during this brief period, the business offices, however, are set to swiftly reopen on December 9, Monday, at 8 a.m, ensuring that normalcy will return just as quickly as it was paused.
Weekend swimmers and families can look forward to jumping back into the water on Saturday, when facilities like the Kīhei Aquatic Center, Lahaina Aquatic Center, Upcountry Aquatic Center, coach Soichi Sakamoto Pool, Coach Spencer Shiraishi Memorial Pool, Kokua Pool, and Wailuku Pool are slated to resume regular operations for both lap and recreational swimming.
Residents looking to keep abreast of the pool hours during this period, or in general, can call the Maui County pool hotline at (808) 270-8208, while those in need of broader information regarding Maui County parks, might want to visit their website, where updates and details are readily available for all who need it, a digital touchpoint that aims to minimize any inconvenience caused by the closures and ensure that the community's interaction with their parks remains uninterrupted.
