On Saturday evening, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office responded to a scene on I-43 westbound near 76th St around 5:15 p.m. following reports of a crash and possible gunshots. Deputies were investigating the situation, according to CBS 58.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office received conflicting reports about a shooting and quickly confirmed the allegations. To conduct a thorough investigation, they shut down a section of the interstate. The closure allowed deputies to search for evidence, such as shell casings, and keep the public at a safe distance. The westbound lanes were closed for about two hours, with traffic diverted at 76th Street, as reported by WISN 12.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the discharge of firearms, although one individual was transported to a hospital by the Greenfield Fire Department. The person's condition and the nature of their injuries, if related to the incident, have not been disclosed. Authorities worked through the night and reopened all westbound lanes of I-894 around 7:30 p.m. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate and confirmed that "there is enough evidence to believe" shots were fired. No suspects have been arrested, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information to come forward, as stated by FOX 6.
