
A devastating incident in Minneapolis has left a community in mourning after a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot by another teenager. The Minneapolis Police Department reported the tragic event, which unfolded at a residence on the 2400 block of Ferrant Place, where a young life was cut short around 1:30 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Upon responding to the emergency, MPD officers discovered the victim and attempted to save his life but were unsuccessful, the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene confirmations to official sources. A 14-year-old boy was found to be handling the firearm when the shooting occurred, with two adult women and several other juveniles present, all of whom were unharmed, yet the precinct was plunged into shock and dismay by the senseless loss.
The investigation is ongoing as MPD pieces together the sequence of events that led to the heartrending outcome. Preliminary information suggests the shooting was accidental. The teenager believed responsible was at the scene when authorities arrived and has since been taken into custody at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.
Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, Police Chief Brian O’Hara was quoted as "The death of a child is always incredibly troubling and tragic,".
