
On Halloween evening, the streets of Kearny Mesa were the scene of a severe accident involving a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Gerald Griffin Driveway and Balboa Avenue. A 29-year-old woman driving a 2018 Mazda CX-3 had the green light when her vehicle was T-boned by a motorcycle that ran the red light. The collision led to critical injuries for the 21-year-old male motorcyclist and significant injuries to his 21-year-old female passenger, according to the City of San Diego.
The motorcyclist, operating a 2016 Yamaha YZF-R6, suffered a ruptured aorta and is currently listed in critical condition. The passenger of a motorcycle ejected upon impact and sustained a black eye and a fractured tailbone.
SDPD's Traffic Division has taken the lead on the ongoing investigation as they work to piece together the details of the tragic event.
