As Thanksgiving draws near, a wave of nearly 2 million travelers is expected to descend upon Orlando International Airport, a destination known for its festive draw and strategic importance to those seeking the splendor of Central Florida. The airport will see an inflow and outflow of passengers looking to join their families for a holiday or escape vacation indulgence. Among these passengers was Summer Willman, who, along with her family, concluded a cruise and was mildly surprised by the bustling scene. "I wasn’t thinking about it but now I realize it’s around that time, I understand," Willman stated, as per ClickOrlando.
Amidst the scramble of departing passengers and arrivals, the airport's management has proposed a strategic guideline dubbed the 3-2-1 rule to navigate the tides of holiday travel smoothly. This strategy, as reported by WESH, is simple: be at the airport ticket counter three hours prior, the security checkpoint two hours before, and the departure gate one hour ahead of your flight. MCO officials expect the zenith of the traffic on December 1, with an anticipated 181,688 passengers bustling through the terminals on what is likely to be the busiest day.
With Orlando crowned as the top domestic destination this Thanksgiving by AAA and a slight increase in both foot traffic and air travel over last year's figures, the airport scenario is set to be both vibrant and potentially overwhelming. As ClickOrlando reported, AAA suggests booking flights early in the day, seeking direct routes, and even considering traveling on Thanksgiving Day, as these choices might offer the most advantageous blend of value and availability.
With such large numbers, it's important to be prepared and careful. MCO urges holiday travelers to be patient and follow the safety rules. Key reminders include not bringing guns or weapons through security, following the screening process, not leaving bags unattended, and labeling luggage with ID tags. If traveling with pets or comfort animals, keep them on a leash, as WESH has detailed.
