A New Franklin resident is recovering after being hit by a stray bullet that penetrated the walls of his home, the New Franklin Police Department has reported—a seemingly accidental discharge that has left the community unsettled and looking for answers.
On the afternoon on Sunday, around 3:30 p.m., the man was inside his residence on Fairview Drive when a bullet from an unknown shooter traveling from the west struck him in the leg, authorities said, according to FOX8. Meanwhile, the New Franklin Police canvassed the neighborhood in hopes of gleaning some clue as to the origin of this arbitrary violence, searching the area of Center and Grove Roads as they talked to nearby residents, hoping someone might shed light on the event, Cleveland19 added in a follow-up to the incident.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the police have categorized the shooting as likely "accidental,” as per FOX8, with the working assumption that someone in the area engaged in the act of shooting without malicious intent—but the absence of a known perpetrator or a determined shooting location amplifies the arbitrariness of the incident police stated, "These incidents are 100% avoidable if proper safety measures are taken when shooting,” calling for an awareness of surroundings and proper backstop use when shooting, as conveyed by a social media statement obtained by Akron Beacon Journal.
While the man's injury has been described as non-life-threatening, the shooting underscores a haunting reality of incidents that can rupture the mundane in an instant, leaving physical and psychological wounds alike—the New Franklin Police Department continues its appeal for any information relating to the incident and encourages the public to contribute any knowledge by contacting them at 330-882-3281.
