
On Friday, twelve members of the New Orleans Fire Department were promoted during a ceremony held at the Andrew P. Sanchez and Copelin-Byrd Multi-Service Center in the Lower Ninth Ward. The event recognized their advancement to positions including Apparatus Operator, Fire Captain, and District Chief, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
The ceremony was held with support from the community, featuring Mayor LaToya Cantrell as a special guest speaker. In her address, she offered congratulations and encouragement to the members of the New Orleans Fire Department on their promotions. The New Orleans Fire Department announced the promotion of five District Chiefs: Alvin Fernandez, Michael Sciortino Jr., Byron Casey, Scott Smith, and Mark Porche Jr. Each of them has shown the necessary bravery, knowledge, and leadership to advance in their roles and continue serving the community.
Four members of the New Orleans Fire Department were promoted to the rank of Captain: Rachel Decesare, Darrell Blake, Matthew Meyers, and William Spiers. Ross Flowers, Aleksandr Tumanov, and Charles Fortenberry were also promoted to Apparatus Operators. These promotions reflect their individual achievements and the overall strength of the department. The ceremony recognized their contributions and reaffirmed the New Orleans Fire Department's commitment to serving the community of New Orleans.
