The New Orleans Police Department is actively investigating a series of violent events that unfolded in the city’s Fifth District, which included a mass shooting and a homicide. The incidents resulted in a regrettable tally of twelve gunshot wound victims, with two confirmed fatalities, as reported by the New Orleans Police Department.

According to the official report from New Orleans Police Department, the sequence of violence began near a second line event at approximately 3:38 p.m. on the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue. Officers on duty for the event were alarmed by the sound of gunfire and, upon investigation they discovered eight individuals with gunshot wounds. All victims were promptly transported to a local hospital, their injuries ranging in severity, with an additional victim arriving independently.

A short while later, New Orleans Police Department officers were called to another scene of gunfire approximately 45 minutes later, at the intersection of Almonaster and Florida avenues, where they encountered two more victims. The emergency medical services pronounced one victim dead on the scene – while the other succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. A third victim from this incident made their way to the hospital on their own and is reportedly stable.
