
The New Orleans Police Department has released its weekly crime statistics for the period of November 17-23, 2024, documenting a range of criminal activity and law enforcement efforts within the city. One of the highlight cases includes the tracking down of a person of interest related to a multiple-victim shooting on November 17 in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue. As reported by NOPD News, the individual was apprehended on November 19 for an unrelated crime, yet remains a focal point in the ongoing shooting investigation.
The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals have jointly captured a 15-year-old juvenile, adding to the week's arrests on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with an October 7, 2024, homicide on Bundy Road. Concurrently, the NOPD brought several juvenile suspects into custody linked to threats against local schools, an investigation still unfolding.
Additionally, Nicholas Miorana was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for a homicide incident that transpired last Thursday, November 21, in the 700 block of Iberville Street. Arrest warrants were similarly obtained for Daniel Miorana and Darrell Adams for their involvement in this fatal encounter.
In regards to weapons control measures, the NOPD has made 390 arrests for illegal firearm possession this year, which signifies a 44-percent decline when juxtaposed with the 698 arrests during the same period in 2023. In parallel, there has been a 21-percent reduction in gun seizures, with the department confiscating a total of 2,002 firearms through their criminal investigations in 2024, down from 2,564 in the previous year.
