Westbound lanes of the I-40 in Oklahoma City have reopened after a multi-vehicle crash near Anderson Road caused significant disruptions earlier today. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation confirmed the closure and subsequent diversion of traffic to I-240, as reported by local news outlet KFOR. Motorists experienced delays throughout the morning and were advised to seek alternate routes during the incident.

The chain-reaction collision involved several vehicles, prompting a closure that lasted for a few hours. According to a KOCO 5 interview with Sky 5 Pilot Chase Rutledge, there were at least three separate crash scenes within the area, with a count of at least 16 vehicles at one point. Rutledge also noted a traffic backup extending approximately five miles back to Choctaw Road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol attributed the cause of the incident to a vehicle slowing down for construction, leading to what they described as a “domino effect.” Multiple wreckers were dispatched to clear the congested interstate.
