
A fatal collision involving a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) bus and a sedan resulted in one fatality on Monday evening in southwest Atlanta. This incident took place at the crossroads of Campbellton Road and Honeysuckle Lane around 5:15 p.m., as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Atlanta Police disclosed that the sedan struck the rear of the bus while it was stationed at a bus stop, servicing passengers. As emergency services arrived, they found the sedan's driver severely injured, and hastily transported the individual to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, but not unexpected, the driver succumbed to their injuries. Names of the involved parties remain undisclosed while the investigation unfolds, as mentioned by Atlanta News First.
All bus passengers were evaluated at a local hospital for injuries, which were determined to be non-life-threatening. The Atlanta Police Department's Accident Investigations Unit currently spearheads the probe into the direct cause of the crash, ensuring every detail is meticulously examined.
The area of Campbellton Road and Honeysuckle Lane, a junction frequented by many, was subjected to the scrutiny of law enforcement for several hours following the collision. Atlanta police stated in their public release, "Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the sedan rear-ended the MARTA bus as it was stopped servicing a bus stop," as per Atlanta News First. Traffic regularity has been restored following on-site investigations, but the Atlanta Police Department suggests that anyone with information related to the incident should come forward, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
