The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that major travel disruptions will affect Phoenix-area freeways from November 1 to 4 due to a series of improvement projects. According to ADOT's Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory, closures will impact US 60 (Superstition Freeway), Interstate 17, and Loop 202 (Red Mountain/Santan Freeways). Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternate routes to navigate the scheduled work.

Specifically, the westbound US 60 between Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and I-10 in Tempe will be out of commission from Friday night until Saturday evening for sign work, as part of the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. As a part of the closures for sign work on the Superstition Freeway, various on-ramps will also be unavailable, as per ADOT. Drivers traveling on westbound US 60 should detour on northbound Loop 101 to westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) or southbound Loop 101 to the Santan Freeway, depending on their destination. Scheduled for closure during overnight over the weekend, the southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane for pavement improvements might also disrupt travelers planning to use that stretch.

Regarding the I-17, a closure is in place for its southbound portion between Peoria and Dunlap avenues to accommodate work on Valley Metro’s light rail bridge across the freeway. A detour via 19th or 35th avenues is suggested. Additionally, the Loop 202 will see eastbound closures at the "Mini-Stack" interchange and Priest Drive for pavement sealing, suggesting the use of local alternate routes during this time.

Furthermore, closures on the eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) between the Loop 101 and Alma School Road will occur for a widening project, suggesting Chandler Boulevard or Germann Road as detours. Works on the westbound I-10 between the Santan Freeway and Elliot Road, primarily for pavement marking, will see the highway narrowed to two lanes, as reported by ADOT.

All of this construction activity is part of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region and is funded in part by Proposition 400, a sales tax voted into effect by Maricopa County residents. Real-time updates on highway conditions can be accessed via ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov or their mobile app.
