The local business community is abuzz with the latest announcement from the Pima County Small Business Commission, which has decided upon the recipients for its annual Small Business Awards. There was considerable competition among the nominees, an eclectic group spanning a wide spectrum of industries and backgrounds, and the selection process was not one to be taken lightly, according to the Pima County press release.
Drawing from a pool of 203 nominations for 115 different businesses, a noteworthy jump from last year’s tally of 71 nominations for 61 enterprises, the commission had its work cut out for them in adjudicating the merits of each candidate, as reported by the Pima County. Despite the significant increase in contenders, they were able to narrow down the field to a handful of exemplar awardees.
The coveted awards were bestowed upon Forbes Meat Company, taking the prize in the Urban category, and Arivaca Mercantile, which clinched the award in the Rural category, according to an official Pima County statement. Additionally, SARSEF, a nonprofit entity, has been honored in their respective field. The criteria for selection and a detailed narrative on why each business stood out will be disclosed in due course.
The distinction of an award carries with it not just a symbol of commendation but also a physical token that the winners will receive - a plaque to each of the winners is scheduled to be presented at the upcoming Dec. 3 Board of Supervisors meeting which is a testament to their outstanding performance, and enterprise within their community also each nominee shall receive a certificate in acknowledgment of their nomination, a gesture that signifies the Pima County's appreciation for their entrepreneurial spirit and the valuable contributions they bring to the economic tapestry of the region.
