Starting today, Portland's officers and Public Safety Support Specialists will be hitting the sidewalks for a series of foot patrols that run until December 31. These walking beats will take them through the bustling arteries of the city – think shopping centers, think holiday events – with the promise of a visible and engaging police presence during peak festive hours.
These officers met with the challenge of protecting while connecting, will operate in shifts from noon to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily, as detailed by the Portland Police Bureau. An inclusive approach sees members from all ranks taking part, perhaps a nod to the unifying spirit the season calls for.
