Redwood City Police Department responded to a peculiar incident on the 800 Block of Woodside Road on Wednesday, where an attempted shoplifting event ended with the store attendant accidentally shooting himself. According to the Redwood City Police Department, four individuals armed with a sledgehammer attempted to rob a local business at around 6:00 PM.

The store attendant, acting in defense of the establishment, brandished a legally owned firearm, confronting the intruders, who subsequently fled in an unidentified sedan. The attendant had positioned the firearm in his pocket, which unintentionally led to his injury about an hour later. When handling some items, the gun discharged, striking him in the leg.

Officers arriving on the scene provided initial medical aid. The store attendant was then taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
