In a surprisingly narrow defeat, Robert "Twix" Taylor will not be challenging the results of the North Las Vegas Ward 2 City Council race, despite losing by only eight votes. According to News3LV, Taylor stated on Facebook that the cost of such a recount would be $156,000, well beyond his campaign's financial reach. Ruth Garcia-Anderson emerged victorious with 10,309 votes against Taylor's 10,301, as reported in the final tally that included the last batch of provisional ballots.
Taylor's decision was dictated by the hefty price tag attached to the recount process and came as a surprise when his team initially believed it would cost around $2,500. Taylor revealed the amount, saying "Which is over three times as much as the salary of a City of North Las Vegas Council member," which was shared from a statement obtained by FOX5 Vegas.
This decision leaves Garcia-Anderson to claim the seat by the thinnest of margins. Nevada election law does not trigger an automatic recount regardless of how narrow the margin is. Instead, it allows any candidate to request a recount within three working days after the votes have been canvassed. The requesting candidate is responsible for the recount cost, payable in advance.
Without the necessary funds to initiate the recount, Taylor noted his acceptance of the election's outcome. "Unfortunately, I do not have the financial resources to cover the cost, so I will have to accept the final election results," he told News3LV.
