Rockwall County has found a new reason to take pride in its commitment to public health, thanks to the efforts of one enterprising human resources assistant. Katy Ruff, the assistant in question, has been honored with a Certificate of Achievement by the Rockwall County Commissioners Court for her role in orchestrating the county's inaugural Wellness Month.
The County spotlighted the success of the event, dubbed Wellness Palooza, held in October. During this month-long initiative, designed to foster the well-being of county employees, participants had access to a variety of health services such as flu shots, physical exams, and biometric screenings. As the Wellness Coordinator, Katy Ruff's innovation led to the Wellness Palooza offering also breast exams, chair massages, and other wellness-related activities, according to the Rockwall County website. The initiative didn't just stop at preventive health care services; it also featured an incentive program that saw five employees win $100 Amazon gift cards in recognition of their commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
Efforts by Ruff and her team underlined a growing trend in workplace health promotion, showcasing how local governments can take a proactive role in the health and wellness of their staff.
