October's end at the San Diego International Airport was anything but ordinary for authorities. In what marks another significant strike against illegal contraband, officers netted a trove of drugs and weapons over the month, according to Customs and Border Protection. The haul included 391 pounds of marijuana, a stash of firearms consisting of an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic pistol, and accompanying ammunition.

It's reported that during a spate of enforcement actions, the CBP officers, honed by diligence, intercepted these items in five distinct incidents, all intended for international destinations. The items seized were 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition and high-capacity magazines for pistols and rifles. Screening through the contents of cargo and luggage, officers stumbled upon the contraband, much to the chagrin of would-be traffickers.

The suspects tied to the smuggling attempts were arrested and are now facing the scrutiny of Homeland Security Investigations, which has taken over the probe into these incidents. As stated by CBP,  its message of ongoing vigilance and commitment to community safety was clear.
