A San Francisco man has been found guilty of carjacking an Uber driver and leading police on a high-speed chase earlier this year. According to a social media post from the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, 48-year-old Jason Gresham was convicted of several charges, including carjacking, evading a police officer, and providing false information to law enforcement. The trial by jury ended with a successful prosecution led by Assistant District Attorney Abigail Adams, with support from various law enforcement community members.

During the ordeal on January 21, Mr. Gresham approached the victim, who was waiting to pick up a passenger at Fisherman's Wharf. He threatened the driver with a shiny, pointed object, demanding a ride and eventually forcing the victim out of the car. After commandeering the vehicle, he led the San Francisco Police and, subsequently, the California Highway Patrol on a pursuit that spanned from San Francisco across the Bay Bridge and ended in Vallejo. Despite attempts to stop him, Gresham continued to flee at speeds up to 90 miles per hour until officers apprehended him in a dead-end parking lot.

According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, DA Brooke Jenkins thanked the jury and emphasized collaboration between law enforcement agencies in handling cases such as this one. "My office will do everything we can to ensure there is justice in each case and will work with law enforcement agencies at all levels and across county lines to protect the safety of the public," said Jenkins.

Assistant District Attorney Adams also commented on the trial's outcome, suggesting that it conveys that intoxication is not an excuse for criminal behavior. Adams praises the victim's courage in facing his assailant during the trial. Mr. Gresham remains in custody, with sentencing scheduled following a December 4 bench trial on aggravating factors.
