In a move signaling a potential transformation of the cityscape, Mayor London Breed announced plans for a new park on the Embarcadero to reinvigorate the downtown San Francisco area. Teaming up with real estate giant BXP Inc., the owner of Salesforce Tower, and the Downtown SF Partnership, the proposal looks to revamp the underutilized Embarcadero Plaza and adjacent Sue Bierman Park, converting them into a vibrant public space. According to SF Recreation & Parks, the partnership seeks to infuse up to $27.5 million into the project, featuring privately and publicly sourced funds.

Slated for discussion at the Board of Supervisors, Mayor Breed will present legislation to approve the partnership agreement, including BXP Embarcadero Plaza LP, or BXPE's commitment to spend approximately $2.5 million on design efforts. "The Embarcadero is the gateway to Downtown, where residents, visitors, and workers should be able to experience the best of what’s possible in our City," Mayor Breed commented, as per SF Recreation & Parks. The City's Recreation & Parks Department and Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) are expected to secure over $15 million in public funding jointly. In comparison, the partnership would source an additional $10 million privately.

Concepts for the Embarcadero Plaza redesign remain open, subject to community input, with possibilities ranging from a new children's playground to entertainment spaces and markets. In the wake of recent activations, such as concerts and trivia nights aimed at revitalizing the area, Aaron Fenton, senior vice president of BXP, stated at the press conference, "San Francisco needs a world-class park in its downtown," highlighting its strategic location and iconic views, as cited by The SF Standard.
