Hate symbols have marred the headquarters of Urban Alchemy, a San Francisco non-profit known for its safety ambassador program in the city's Tenderloin and Mid-Market areas. A swastika, the emblem of vile ideologies, was spray-painted in white at 2:38 a.m. yesterday at their 255 Golden Gate Ave. office, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the organization. The reprehensible act was captured on video and widely circulated, showing an individual committing the vandalism, as reported by The San Francisco Standard.

The same group also suffered another racist attack last Friday evening when a nearby business on Eddy Street was defaced with graffiti explicitly targeting the non-profit with a racial slur. These incidents starkly contrast the organization's mission to bring peace to challenging neighborhoods. They have been pivotal in employing individuals aiming to transform their lives, including those who have been incarcerated and are battling substance abuse. The timing of the attacks, as reported by The San Francisco Standard, parallels a period of financial uncertainty for the organization, which could potentially lead to layoffs that would shake the lives of about 300 Urban Alchemy workers. Last week, their protest at City Hall was quickly dispersed after a timing mistake left them unable to voice their concerns publicly at a Board of Supervisors' meeting.

In addressing these hate-driven actions, Bayron Wilson, co-founder and COO of Urban Alchemy, urged the community and city leaders to recognize the weight of their words and actions. "Unfortunately, these racist acts targeting Urban Alchemy and our practitioners come after misguided rhetoric towards our organization and on the heels of our practitioners speaking up about their jobs potentially being impacted last week," Wilson said, as per The San Francisco Standard. He appealed for a mindful response from the community and the city's stewards.

Information regarding the individual responsible for the vandalism has been requested to be directed to the FBI. The surveillance footage shared by Urban Alchemy on social media depicts the suspect in a green baseball cap and loose-fitting attire, carrying a large white bag while committing the act. Moreover, additional footage from Friday's incident shows the derogatory and racist graffiti. However, Urban Alchemy has not indicated whether both acts were perpetrated by the same individual, as mentioned by KTVU. Both the San Francisco police and the FBI have yet to issue a response to these incidents.
