President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Aaron Peskin, may have lost his chance in the mayoral race to billionaire-backed newcomer Daniel Lurie. However, his influence was still felt in the city’s recent ballot measures. Three measures he championed appear set for victory, demonstrating strong voter support despite opposition from wealthy interests, as per Mission Local.
According to Mission Local, Peskin's measures include Prop C, to create an inspector-general position for government oversight, Prop G, to establish an affordable housing fund, and Prop E, to create a task force to review the city’s commission system. Prop C leads with over 60% of votes, showing voters’ desire for accountability. Prop G, focused on aiding low-income tenants in SRO hotels, has more than 56% support, while Prop E, countering a rival measure funded by billionaire Michael Moritz, holds a 52% lead.
Despite being outspent, Peskin's measures have resonated with voters who prefer his vision of governance reform over wealth-backed initiatives. "San Francisco voters are smart," Peskin told the San Francisco Examiner, noting that this election has shown a push for practical reforms over concentrated power.
