Violence has again marred the community surrounding the Cane Creek Apartments in South Memphis, with two incidents peppering the night with gunfire. In the first event, WREG reports that late Sunday night, a man grappled over a firearm with multiple suspects, who then discharged the weapon several times and fled in a black Infiniti. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the flying bullets that penetrated one of the apartment units.
As if in echo, another shooting rattled the same area of the complex early Monday morning. Found injured, a man was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition after an altercation that police describe as gang-related. With the suspects still unnamed and at large, this latest confrontation adds to a series of emergency calls to the apartment complex, nearly a dozen over the past two months, according to Action News 5.
The Memphis Police Department believes the two incidents are related, despite the absence of clarity on the linkage between them. In the first, shots fired followed a heated disagreement between two men, with one of them and companions in a vehicle turning their weapons upon the other, thankfully missed. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities calling for anyone with information on the suspects to step forward, whose identities remain unclear.
