Yesterday morning, a domestic emergency unfolded as Shelby County Sheriff's deputies rescued a bedridden woman from her flaming home near Millington. The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Port Haven Drive and Lake Port Drive. Three deputies located and retrieved the imperiled woman, according to Action News 5. They managed to save her just moments before the situation could take a dire turn.
The deputies, upon their hasty arrival and learning of the woman trapped inside, went into the smoke-engulfed home. After carrying the woman to safety, the Shelby County Fire Department, arriving shortly thereafter, extinguished the kitchen fire before it could claim more than its origin, reported Local Memphis. The swift response by the deputies saved the home from further destruction.
All four individuals, the woman and the three rescuing deputies, were transported to Methodist North Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Fortunately, they were in non-critical condition, as evidenced by the deputies being released after treatment, confirmed by FOX13 Memphis. The deputies have been praised for their quick actions which ultimately averted a more tragic outcome.
In a statement, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said, "A potentially much worse situation was avoided thanks to the quick actions of the deputies and the Shelby County Fire Department," as noted by FOX13 Memphis.
