Darren Phillip Coler, Jr., 35, of Slidell, has been sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to misappropriating funds from the United States Postal Service. The sentence follows an investigation into the misuse of postal funds, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

On November 20, U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk sentenced him to two years of supervised release and ordered him to repay the full amount. He was also required to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100, according to court documents, as reported by the United States Attorney’s Office.

Darren Phillip Coler, Jr. was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans acknowledged the efforts of the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General in the investigation. According to a statement from Evans's office, "COLER, an employee of the United States Postal Service (USPS), beginning in July 2021 and continuing until November 2021, did knowingly and willfully use money and property, totaling $62,033, belonging to the USPS." Coler pleaded guilty earlier this year following the investigation, and his sentence aims to deter similar misconduct, as stated by the United States Attorney’s Office.
