On the eve of Thanksgiving, three students from Southern Utah University found themselves facing theft charges after allegedly lifting two refrigerators from a campus loading dock. According to ABC4, Brock Felder, 20, Hercy Miller, 24, and Peter Dadson Jr., 25, were implicated in the incident following the heist reported on campus, each charged with one count of theft in the value range of $1,500 to $4,999, a reflection of the cost of the refrigerators claimed to have been stolen.
The arrest documents, per details from Iron County, pin the value of each refrigerator at $1,500, bringing the total to $3,000 worth of cold contraband. Notified on Friday of the suspected theft, the SUU police made quick work of identifying the suspects, thanks to campus resources. As reported by KUTV, through SUU parking and student directories, the men were tracked down and arrested for their alleged involvement in the event, on the day before arrests were made, Thanksgiving.
This incident stands out not merely for the boldness of the alleged act but for the identities of the accused. Hercy Miller and Peter Dadson Jr. are known not just as students, but as athletes, both part of SUU's basketball team, a detail that surely adds a layer of complexity and public attention to the case. As the investigation continues, the university and local police are expected to unravel the students' intent and the sequence of events leading up to the theft.
Despite the upcoming holidays, officials were not in the giving spirit when dealing with this case. The implications for these young men extend beyond the immediate legal ramifications, they also face potential academic and athletic program consequences. The court dates are yet to be set for Felder, Miller, and Dadson, as reported by ABC4, but the echo of their alleged act is likely to resound within the university halls for a time to come.
