A fatal crash has occurred in downtown resulting in one casualty, as an adult male driver of a Volkswagen Atlas collided with a Kenworth Tractor Truck after striking a Dodge Ram yesterday evening, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The incident unfolded at eastbound I-44 & Walnut around 10:10 p.m.
The officers, who were initially attending a different call at I-70 near Memorial, rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash. The investigation by Accident Reconstruction is in progress, but it is suggested that the Volkswagen was traveling at a significant speed, attempting an aggressive lane change to circumvent slower traffic, which ultimately led to a critical error. SLMPD's release detailed that the Volkswagen "sideswiped a 2017 Dodge Ram and then drove into the rear of the tractor truck."
Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and pronounced the Volkswagen driver deceased. The drivers involved in the accident, apart from the deceased, did not suffer injuries and cooperated with the authorities at the scene.
