Two St. Louis men stand accused of a crime that culminated in the direst of outcomes—a fatal kidnapping last week in Clayton, Missouri. Anjuan Q. Mosby, age 43, has been slapped with charges of kidnapping resulting in death as laid out in a complaint last Saturday, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.
His alleged accomplice, 36-year-old Emmanuel Suarez, faces his own set of legal challenges being charged this past Tuesday with being a felon in possession of a firearm following his Monday arrest, during the unfolding investigation, the two men seemingly threaded their fates together in a series of events that would spiral wildly out of control; culminating in an attempt to extract funds from a bank which preceded a tragic shooting in the 4700 block of Greer Avenue, as detailed by affidavits supporting the complaints.
According to the affidavits, Mosby allegedly forced the victim to attempt bank transaction before resorting to violence, while it's asserted that Suarez was at the wheel of a stolen Ram pickup during the kidnapping, with a .45-caliber Glock handgun being found in his possession prior to his arrest—complicated still by the fact that his status as a felon forbids him from bearing arms.
The charges against the accused—still just accusations until proven in a court of law—paint a grim picture that could see Mosby facing either life imprisonment or the death penalty while Suarez could find himself facing up to 15 years behind bars; their alleged actions not only snuffing out the light of one life but potentially darkening their own paths significantly, these consequences underscored by massive fines and the specter of prolonged, if not permanent, incarceration. The collaboration between the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI, Clayton Police Department, and the St. Louis County Police Department was crucial in bringing forth these charges, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Walker at the prosecutorial helm.
This case has been enveloped within Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a strategic partnership aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence and bolstering the safety of neighborhoods, a narrative of community and enforcement woven together with the aim of fostering trust, preventing crime, and ensuring justice, all part of a larger tapestry of legal and social work that persists in the face of adversity. A violent crime reduction strategy introduced May 26, 2021, has since strengthened the foundation of this program, which in turn nurtures the community even as it confronts its scars and sows the seeds for a more hopeful tomorrow.
