
Tragedy has struck in St. Louis as Colin Brown, a 16-year-old high school hockey player, succumbed to his injuries after being hit by stray gunfire Saturday night on Interstate 55. The unfortunate incident occurred near Loughborough Avenue as Colin was returning home from a hockey game, FOX 2 News reported. Brown was a student at Christian Brothers College High School and had dreams of becoming a doctor; his final act was to save others as his organs were donated, giving life to four individuals in need.
The Brown family's profound loss has echoed through the St. Louis community, with police department spokesman Mitch McCoy commenting on the unifying effort of law enforcement agencies to seek justice while the investigation continues to find the perpetrators behind this senseless act, KSDK shared, police have collected new video evidence, although no arrests have been made the police urges anyone with information to step forward because no amount of information is too small the community's help is paramount in piecing together this tragedy.
As the St. Louis hockey community gathered in support of the Browns, over 100 individuals stood in solidarity at a prayer vigil at McKendree Rec Plex, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report. The remembrance of Colin will also be felt at the professional level, with the St. Louis Blues announcing a pre-game moment of silence and a raffle to support his family—highlighting the profound impact of Colin's death on the wider community.
Gov.-elect Mike Kehoe expressed devastation over social media and Mayor Tishaura O. Jones relayed her grief as a mother, vowing that the officers of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will fervently work to bring those responsible to justice.
