The City of Surprise is setting the stage for the Thanksgiving holiday with a slew of office closures and adjustments to city services, including trash pickup and public program schedules. According to an announcement on the city's official website, municipal offices will be shuttered on both Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 to observe the festivities.
Residents should be aware and prepare to adapt their routines as the city's sanitation services will also undergo changes due to the holiday. There will be no trash collection on Thanksgiving Day, and residents who are Surprise trash customers can expect their pickup to be delayed by one day later in the week. The usual schedule is set to quickly resume the following Friday. To stay on top of the rescheduling, Surprise encourages users to sign up for reminders via text or email through the MySurprise App, which is readily accessible for both Apple and Android devices.
Recreational activities and programs will hit a temporary pause as well. All three City of Surprise libraries will not be operational during the holiday, remaining closed for both Thursday and Friday. Additionally, the Parks & Recreation department confirmed that no programs, classes, or camps will be held on these dates, impacting the community's typical social and sporting scenes. The Surprise Aquatic Center will join the list of closures on Thursday, November 28, while the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex is also scheduled to be closed for Thanksgiving, with additional holiday hours available on their website.
The innovative WeRIDE microtransit service will also take a brief hiatus, ceasing operations on both Thursday and Friday. Service will be set to spring back into action the following Monday, December 2, commencing at the early hour of 6 a.m. Residents looking forward to resuming their regular daily commutes can look to reconnect with the service at the start of the week. For any inquiries concerning the modified schedules, the city has provided contact numbers for both trash pickup at 623.222.1900 and programs at 623.222.2000, ensuring that all community members have access to necessary information through these minor service interruptions.
