
A tense hour-long standoff ensued in Taunton this morning when local police became engaged in a gunfire exchange with a man who had barricaded himself inside an apartment. As reported by Boston 25 News, police were initially summoned to an apartment building on Hodges Avenue for a well-being check around 9:00 a.m.
The situation escalated when officers encountered the man locked inside a bathroom. According to the abc 6 report, the man fired at officers, resulting in at least one officer discharging their weapon in response. Neither the suspect nor any officers were injured during the confrontation. Residents were evacuated from nearby homes as a precaution.
After about an hour of negotiations, the suspect surrendered peacefully. His identity has not been released, but he was arrested and taken to the Taunton Police Station.
