A DUII suspect found himself in custody after a sequence of dangerous maneuvers that included hitting a police vehicle and fleeing a traffic stop, authorities reported. The incident unfolded on Monday when a sergeant with the Portland Police Bureau noticed erratic driving behavior on I-205.
The sergeant observed a vehicle weaving within its lane and nearly causing an accident, which prompted a traffic stop. During this routine procedure, the suspect's vehicle made an unexpected reverse, colliding with the unmarked police car. The sergeant, who was unharmed, then stepped out of his vehicle at which time, the suspect evaluated the situation and fled the scene. The chase didn't last long as a deputy from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office caught up with the suspect and executed another traffic stop. At this juncture, the driver was apprehended "without incident," according to officials. A subsequent field sobriety test conducted by an Oregon State Police trooper suggested intoxication, confirming initial suspicions behind the traffic stop.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Isaiah M. Woster of West Linn, faces charges for DUII, and Reckless Driving, with the possibility of additional charges pending further investigation. After the ordeal, Woster was transported to Clackamas County Jail.
